Order Preschool Furniture from China 2026: MOQ, Lead Time, Custom vs Stock

Ordering preschool furniture from China is a purchase-order decision, not a shopping-tab decision. The factory can cut child-height tables, coat lockers and a room list to the drawing — see classroom furniture — but only after millimetres freeze and the calendar still has a boat in it. Get the clock wrong and you buy locally at the last minute anyway.

Buyer page — for the person who signs the purchase order

Wholesale preschool furniture from a China factory is a clock and a freeze, not an Alibaba cart. Production is about 30–45 days after the drawing locks. A classroom package commonly needs 10–14 weeks door to door. Two chairs next week is a local catalog job.

The twelve checks before you sign live on the preschool furniture buying guide. Freight math lives on the landed-cost calculator. Who should quote the job lives on the suppliers guide. This page is the factory clock: MOQ, freeze and 10–14 weeks.

When a China Factory Order Beats a Local Catalog

เวสท์ชอร์เฟอร์นิเจอร์ has manufactured preschool and daycare furniture in Dalian, China since 2003, and supplies centres in 50+ countries. That is not an argument for every PO. It is an argument for the POs that a warehouse brand cannot cut to a wall.

What MOQ Actually Means on a Centre Project

Alibaba listings talk as if wholesale preschool furniture means 200 of one SKU. A licensed centre does not buy that way. You buy a room: mixed tables, chairs at two heights, bag storage, open shelves, and maybe a home corner. The factory MOQ that matters is whether that mix fills a program — often a mixed container or a multi-room crate plan — not a single-item carton count.

  • Project MOQ. A classroom or centre list, mixed SKUs, packed by room. This is the usual factory order.
  • Item MOQ. A high count on one chair. Ignore it as the starting point. Confirm the actual threshold on your list.
  • West Shore. MOQ varies by product. There is no honest single number that fits every catalogue page. Send the list.
  • Not a factory order. Two replacement chairs, one broken locker, a colour-match chair for a room that already exists.

If a vendor will only quote 500 identical chairs, you are on the wrong quote. A centre program lives on โซลูชันเฟอร์นิเจอร์สำหรับเด็กก่อนวัยเรียน and the catalogues, then a drawing — not a carton MOQ.

Custom vs Stock: Only Customize the Line That Breaks

Custom is not a personality. It is a wall that a catalog width will not fill, or an age mix that cannot share one seat height. Stock is everything else.

LineUsually stockUsually custom
Tables and chairsStandard toddler / preschool height bandsA mixed-age room that needs two heights at one table run — do not average
Bag storage / coat lockers5- or 6-section banksA cloak wall that is 4.2 m, not 4.5 m; two hook heights on one run
ชั้นวางแบบเปิดLow movable baysA sightline that a 1800 mm library stack would kill
FinishThe factory standard oak / birch / whiteA specified laminate that the architect already drew

Freeze stock lines first. Then write the three custom millimetres. The process and the clock on those leftover lines sit on custom preschool furniture lead time. A PO that customizes every shelf is how you spend the 30–45 days on emails instead of production.

Send the floor plan, licensed places or capacity by room, and the opening date. West Shore returns a 2D/3D layout with quantities, heights and a factory-versus-local split.

Get the furniture schedule

The Clock: 30–45 Days in the Factory, 10–14 Weeks to the Room

Standard production is about 30–45 days after you freeze the drawing and the purchase order. That is factory time. It is not the day the truck arrives.

  • Week 0. Layout frozen. Heights, cubby counts, finish, packing by room. No more “we might add a home corner.”
  • Weeks 1–6. Production (about 30–45 days, depending on mix and finish).
  • Weeks 6–10. Ocean transit. Book the boat when production is real, not when the email thread feels hopeful.
  • Weeks 10–14. Licensed customs broker, GST/VAT/duties, inland delivery, install. Confirm current tax with the broker — do not copy last year’s worksheet.

Put freight and tax on the import daycare furniture landed-cost calculator. This page will not invent a container rate. Opening in under 10–12 weeks is a local buy for the rooms that must open, and a factory order for the rooms that can wait.

What a Real Room List Looks Like

A factory PO is not “some tables.” It is a room-by-room schedule with quantities, seat heights and one finish. Below is an anonymized two-classroom list of the kind West Shore issues after a floor-plan freeze — toddler + preschool, no infant room. Counts move with licensed places; the shape does not.

RoomLineQtyHeight / finish
Toddler (~14 places)ตารางกิจกรรม3Toddler height band — do not average with preschool
ToddlerChild chairs14Same band as the tables; one SKU, not a mixed pile
ToddlerLow open shelves2Sightline height; factory standard birch or oak
Preschool (~18 places)ตารางกิจกรรม4Preschool height band (about 350 mm seat, not 260 mm)
PreschoolChild chairs18Match the tables; extras belong in the teacher cabinet, not a second height
PreschoolOpen shelves + one home-corner set3 + 1Stock bays unless a wall width actually breaks
Shared hallwayBag storage / coat lockers14 + 18 sectionsOne section per place; cut the run if the wall is 4.2 m, not 4.5 m
Both roomsTeacher cabinet1 per roomFactory standard finish unless the architect already named a laminate

That list is a mixed container, not 200 of one chair. Dollar ranges stay on cost to furnish a daycare classroom และ the Australia classroom cost page — this page will not re-price it. If two extra chairs are the only line, stop: that is a local catalog buy.

Payment Terms

Factory-direct preschool furniture is almost never “pay when it lands.” The usual commercial shape is a deposit after the drawing and purchase order freeze, then the balance before the container leaves — after packing and factory QC, before the bill of lading is released. West Shore confirms the split on the quote; do not copy a percentage from another vendor’s email onto this PO.

  • T/T (telegraphic transfer) is the default on a centre program. Deposit starts production. Balance clears before shipment. If the drawing is still moving, the deposit should not have been paid.
  • L/C (letter of credit) shows up on larger files or first-time government / procurement packs. It is slower and the bank owns the paperwork. Use it when your finance team requires it — not as a way to delay a freeze.
  • What the deposit is buying. Cut panels, reserved production time, and the frozen millimetres. It is not a hold on a catalog SKU sitting in a warehouse.
  • What the balance is buying. Packed goods that have passed factory QC, plus the documents your licensed broker needs. Arrival at the centre is not the balance date.

Incoterms in One Paragraph

FOB (Free on Board) is the factory furniture value at the agreed Chinese port — the buyer then owns ocean freight, insurance, duty, GST/VAT, clearance and inland delivery. CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) adds ocean freight and insurance to the named destination port; it is still not landed cost. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) can look simpler, but you still need to know who is importer of record, how GST/VAT is filed, and whether unloading and classroom placement are included. West Shore quotes a centre program as FOB so the stack is visible; run that FOB through the landed-cost calculator before you compare it with a local delivered sticker. Do not treat any of the three Incoterms as “the truck is booked to the classroom.”

QC Before the Container Leaves

The factory measures against the frozen drawing — seat height, table height, cubby count, edge, finish — before the pallet goes into the box. That is in-house QC, not a government stamp and not “the brand is certified.” AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit) is a sampling rule: a third-party inspector pulls a set number of pieces from the lot and accepts or rejects the lot on defects found, instead of measuring every chair. It is a lot decision, not a promise that every unit was touched.

  • Who inspects first. West Shore factory QC against the locked millimetres and the room-by-room packing list.
  • Third-party option. You can appoint SGS, Intertek, QIMA or another inspector at the plant before the container is sealed. Book them against the same drawing the factory used — not a mood board.
  • What to put on the inspection sheet. Heights, counts, finish, edge, carton marks by classroom. A failed height band is a hold, not a “we will sort it on site.”
  • When. After production, before the balance and before the boat. QC after the vessel sails is a claim file, not a factory hold.

What Must Be Frozen Before Anyone Cuts a Panel

  • The drawing. Not a mood board. A layout with furniture footprints — the same discipline as the Australia layout guide if you are under NQF space rules.
  • Age heights. Toddler and preschool as two lines. Do not average 260 mm and 350 mm onto one chair SKU.
  • Arrival storage. One section per licensed place or capacity, hallway if the building allows it. In-room banks are deducted storage in several jurisdictions — confirm locally.
  • Finish and edge. One standard unless the architect already specified a laminate.
  • Opening date. Count backward 10–14 weeks. If that date is already inside the window, stop and buy local.
  • The broker. Name a licensed customs broker before the container exists. See about West Shore for how a factory program is handed off — you still own clearance in your country.

Mistakes That Show Up as a Missed Opening

  • Ordering from a photo. Catalog depth plus backpacks will steal the aisle.
  • Treating MOQ as 500 chairs. You needed a room list.
  • Customizing every line. Production time turns into revision time.
  • Comparing a factory invoice to a showroom sticker. Landed cost includes freight, tax and delivery.
  • Self-clearing the container. Use a licensed broker.
  • Starting the factory clock with a moving drawing. The 30–45 days start at freeze, not at first email.
  • Importing a two-unit top-up. Freight wins. The catalog wins.

คำถามที่พบบ่อย

What is the MOQ when I order preschool furniture from China?

On a centre project, MOQ is usually a room list or a mixed container — not 500 of one chair. West Shore’s MOQ varies by product. Share the floor plan, age groups and opening date. Two extra chairs on their own are a local buy, not a factory program.

How long does wholesale preschool furniture from a factory take?

Standard production is about 30–45 days after the drawing and purchase order freeze. Add ocean transit, a licensed customs broker, tax and inland delivery. A full classroom package commonly needs about 10–14 weeks door to door. Opening inside 10–12 weeks is a local buy.

When should I choose custom instead of stock preschool furniture?

Custom when a wall, age mix or method (Reggio, Montessori) will not fit a catalog width or height. Stock or a local catalog when you need a named SKU this month or a two-unit restock. Do not customize every line. Standardize first; customize the wall that actually breaks.

Is factory-direct cheaper than a local preschool furniture catalog?

On a full classroom or multi-room program, operators commonly land 30–50% under comparable local retail once freight, tax and delivery are in the comparison. That gap disappears on a six-chair top-up. Run the same room list through the landed-cost guide before you decide.

Do I need a customs broker to import daycare furniture?

Yes. Use a licensed customs broker in the destination country. Do not self-clear a container of classroom furniture. Landed cost — not the factory invoice — is the number that belongs on the board pack.

How is this different from the landed-cost calculator and the suppliers guide?

The preschool furniture buying guide is the twelve checks before you sign. The landed-cost page is the freight, tax and delivery math. The suppliers guide is who fits the job (catalog versus factory). This page is the purchase-order clock: MOQ, custom versus stock, and the 10–14 week factory clock.

When is the balance due on a China factory furniture order?

On a typical T/T factory program the deposit starts production after the drawing and PO freeze. The balance is due when the goods are packed and factory QC is done — before the container sails and before the bill of lading is released. Do not treat “when the truck arrives at the centre” as the balance date.
