A Montessori classroom setup is not a wood stain. It is a child who can take a tray, work, and put it back without asking an adult to climb. Montessori classroom furniture is the shelf, the table and the line of sight. The pink tower is a material. Do not mix the two lists.
Direct answer
West Shore Furniture sets up Montessori classroom furniture as a millimetre schedule: open shelves a child can reach without climbing, trays that fit those bays, two seat heights if toddler and 3–6 share a door, practical life next to water, arrival cubbies off the work floor, and a rug zone a teacher can see from the door. AMI does not certify factories. Freeze the shelf wall before anyone cuts.
Buyer page — shelves, heights, line
Furniture: open shelves, tables, chairs, cubbies, a teacher sit-spot with a view of every rug.
Materials: trays, language, sensorial — a different list, a different carton mark.
Materials live on Montessori classroom materials. The room footprints live on preschool classroom layout. The twelve checks live on the buying guide.
West Shore has manufactured in Dalian since 2003 and supplies 5,000+ institutions. That is not an AMI endorsement. Confirm your trainer’s environment notes. This page is what goes on the PO.

Montessori Classroom Furniture vs Materials
Factories stall when a furniture PO still lists bead stairs as TBD. West Shore freezes furniture millimetres even if the material cabinet is still being ordered locally. Keep the lists separate so one delay does not move the other.
| List | Examples | If you mix them |
|---|---|---|
| Furniture | Open shelf, practical-life table, two chair heights, arrival cubby, book browser | A factory cutting trays as if they were cabinet doors |
| Materials | Pink tower, cylinder blocks, language drawers, colour discs | A furniture PO that cannot freeze because a bead stair is still “TBD” |
| Movement | Pikler, climbing, outdoor | A shelf run blocked by a triangle nobody measured |
Setup Checklist: Brief, Heights, Line, Freeze
| # | Step | Ready when |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Age line | Nido, toddler or 3–6 written — not “Montessori room” |
| 2 | Shelf wall | Length in millimetres; top tray reachable without climbing |
| 3 | Tables | Seat height matches the age line; wet work next to water |
| 4 | Sightline | From the door you see every rug; no 1.2 m island maze |
| 5 | Arrival | Bags off the work floor |
| 6 | Freeze | Millimetres signed so production can start |
Shelf height is an age line
Toddler shelves and 3–6 shelves are two products. A toddler who climbs a 3–6 bay is not “independent.” Write the top tray height. Open backs help adults see work; they do not replace a sightline if you park the bay in the middle of the room. A low curved shelf on casters can hold a sensorial sequence against a wall. The same bay as an island is a blind corner.

Tables are still two heights
If toddler and preschool share a room, they still do not share one chair height. Practical life wants a stable wet table, not a wobbly café leftover. Do not average 260 mm and 350 mm. An activity table with a divided tray top can hold a pouring sequence; it is not a substitute for a shelf run.

The line of sight is the method
Observation is the job. A beautiful nook the teacher cannot see is not a prepared environment. Keep tall storage on walls and anchored. Keep the quiet rug visible from practical life. A house-shaped reading corner works when the opening faces the room, not when it faces a blank wall.

Nature, light and books are furniture, not loose parts
A nature stand with flower tubes, a light table and a book browser are furniture SKUs with footprints. Put the light table where a cord is not a trip and where two children can work without blocking the shelf aisle. Put the book browser near the rug, not in the arrival path. Materials that sit on them stay on the materials list.

Need Montessori classroom furniture on a real wall?
Send the floor plan, age line and the shelf wall in millimetres. West Shore marks stock tables first, then the leftover shelf run.
Get the Montessori furniture scheduleWhat Custom Actually Is on a Montessori PO
A catalog 5-bay that will not fill a 4.2 m wall is custom. “Make it feel more Montessori” is not. That leftover millimetre and the clock sit on custom preschool furniture lead time. West Shore would rather leave 400 mm empty than cut a surprise bay after freeze.
- Write the age line (Nido / toddler / 3–6).
- Write the shelf-wall millimetres and the top-tray height.
- Mark stock tables and chairs first.
- Mark leftover bays as custom or as empty.
- Keep materials and movement equipment off this freeze.
What This Page Is Not
- Not the material list. That is Montessori classroom materials.
- Not the generic age layout. That is preschool classroom layout.
- Not the twelve checks. Those live on the buying guide.
- Not a catalogue. SKUs live on product catalogues.
- Not AMI or AMS approval of a factory.
FAQs
What furniture do you need to set up a Montessori classroom?
West Shore Furniture puts six furniture lines on a Montessori setup: child-height open shelves, trays that fit those shelves, two seat-height lines if you mix ages, a low table for practical life, a rug zone you can see from the door, and arrival storage off the work floor. Materials — pink tower, language drawers — live on a different list from furniture.
How high should Montessori classroom shelves be?
Low enough that the child in that room can reach the top tray without climbing. Toddler and 3–6 are not one height. West Shore writes millimetres for the age line. Do not order “Montessori shelf” as if it were a single SKU. A toddler who climbs a 3–6 bay is not independent — the bay is wrong.
Can I mix Montessori furniture with a standard preschool classroom layout?
Yes, on one drawing. Mark the Montessori shelf runs as leftover millimetres if a catalog bay will not hit the wall. The rest can be stock tables and chairs. Customizing every shelf so the word Montessori appears on the carton is a revision cycle, not a prepared environment.
Is a Pikler triangle Montessori classroom furniture?
It is movement equipment. Put it where it does not block a shelf run or a sightline. It is not a substitute for practical-life shelves. If it is a toy counterpart, safety documentation is a different PO line from a birch shelf. West Shore will not freeze a shelf wall around an unmeasured triangle.
What should I send for a Montessori furniture layout?
Scaled plan, ages (Nido / toddler / 3–6), licensed places, the wall for shelves, one finish, opening date. A photo of another school’s room with no scale is not a brief. West Shore returns stock tables marked first, then the leftover shelf run in millimetres.
Does AMI or AMS certify classroom furniture brands?
No. Training bodies describe environments. They do not logo a factory. Do not buy an “AMI approved shelf.” Buy millimetres a child can reach, a tray that fits the bay, and a sightline from the door. West Shore does not sell AMI approval.
Share the floor plan, age line and opening date. West Shore returns a 2D/3D layout with stock tables marked, shelf millimetres written, and materials left on their own list.
